EERA - HYDROPOWER EUROPE consults stakeholders in regional workshops

      | More

Hydropower in Europe is undergoing a great number of future challenges. To face this unique set of policy, environmental, societal, technological and market challenges, the hydropower sector needs to become more cost competitive and find novel approaches to future development in accordance with environmental and social demand.

The HYDROPOWER EUROPE project is built on the ambition to achieve a Research and Innovation Agenda (R&IA) and a Strategic Industry Roadmap (SIR) for the hydropower sector, based on the synthesis of technical fora and transparent public debates through a forum that gathers all relevant stakeholders of the hydropower sector. Through a 3-year consultation process which includes wider online, expert workshops and a series of regional and Brussels based events, HYDROPOWER EUROPE will collect views and inputs of stakeholders from all the different sectors and topics of hydropower (hydro industry and engineering, finance and insurance investors, policy-makers at the national and EU-level, research academia, civil society, etc).

HYDROPOWER EUROPE is an EU-funded project that aims to create a Forum gathering all the hydropower stakeholders throughout Europe.

The project is currently undertaking a consultation process directed at collecting input from such stakeholders, with the ultimate goal of achieving a Research and Innovation Agenda (RIA) and a Strategic Industry Roadmap (SIR) for the sector. A vital part of the consultation process will take place at three one-and-a half day regional workshops, organized to discuss regional issues and hydropower challenges in three different climatic regions, with the intervention of expert industry and high-level official speakers. During the events, groups of participants will also lay out analyses for hydropower-related statements and exchange their views on the two main documents (RIA, SIR).

EPFL - The HYDROPOWER_EUROPE forum devoted to the development of hydropower in the next decades

      | More

HYDROPOWER-EUROPE is a project selected by European Commission after the call H2020 LC-SC3-CC-4-2018, whose the scope is “bringing together stakeholders of the hydropower sector in a forum” to develop a roadmap of research and innovation for new hydropower technologies and innovative mitigation measures. The International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) leads the project. The core partners of the consortium are spanning the whole value chain, they are: European Association for Storage of Energy (EASE), European Renewable Energies Federation (EREF), Association of European Renewable Energy Research Centres (EUREC), International Hydropower Association (IHA), Samui France SARL (SAMUI), VGB PowerTech e.V. (VGB) and ZABALA Brussels SPRL (ZABALA). HYDROPOWER-EUROPE has 3 years to achieve this goal (from October 2018 to September 2021). The relevant stakeholders will be consulted online and through regional, European and international workshops by the networks of the consortium. The consultation process is based on three loops of consultation activity. The first loop will initiate the consultation and the first draft of Research and Innovation Agenda completed with initial consultation outputs. The second loop of consultation is on synthesis of the current status of technology and required priorities. The last loop of consultation will focuse on drafts of the Research and Innovation Agenda and the Technology Roadmap.
